| So you've decided to give Domaining a try and
heard that all you need to do is buy a good domain name, park it
and let the money roll in. Why this can be true if you own
cellphones.com or mortgages.com it takes a lot of time spend in
research to get the money to roll in from just parking a domain. The key with domain parking is
having a domain name that has traffic, because a parked page is
basically a page with ads on it. Each time someone clicks
on an ad you split the money that the advertiser paid for the ad with Google (or
yahoo, etc), and the parking aggregator. So you end up
with a percentage of what the advertiser paid for the ad.

Domain Parking section.
How you make money from Parking Domains?
Here's an example of how you
get paid for domain parking. Let's say I own a domain say
BuyPlasmaTVs.com, which
would not get much in the way of type in traffic (Hint:
Not a very good parking domain). I mean who is going to
type that in, and in the name of disclosure it is one of my
domains the rest is just made up for this example. Since I
get no type-in traffic, but still need to get people to the site
to buy Plasma TVs I need to advertise the site. So I go to
Google (or another company) and purchase
Google Adwords.
I tell Google to run ads anytime someone searches google for "buy
plasma tv's" or on
any appropriate content sites (other web sites that have
something to do with those keywords). I setup a
small budget of $15 a month, each time someone clicks on my ad
either on the Google Search page or any content web pages
Google charges me a fee, which in this case a really small fee of a couple
cents.
A friend of mine creates a web
site that has the latest plasma television reviews. He wants to make
some money so he signs up for
Google Adsense. Which allows him to place various Google ads on his web site.
Since he is reviewing the latest Plasma HDTV's it makes sense that some
of my ads would find there way to his site. Every time
someone clicks on the add for
BuyPlasmaTVs.com I'm
charged and my friend makes some money. This is basically
how you make money from ads. The twist with parking
domains is that instead of making a web site and paying for
hosting and taking the time to make the site you go to a domain
aggregator (Parking company). They will combine all the
parked pages into a single Google Adsense account and
throw up a single page site with ads. Each time someone
clicks on an ad the advertiser is charged, Google takes a cut,
the domain aggregator takes a cut and then you get a small cut.
You can see a couple examples of parked pages at the
NameDrive.com tour.
How to Choose a Good Domain Name to Park
In order to Park a domain you
need a solid domain name. Unfortunately that's not all,
you also need a domain name that people are willing to pay
decent money to advertise for. You could have a perfect
name, but if no one is advertising on those keywords it's
useless for parking, of course you could
sell it. For example some of
the highest pay per click categories are investing, mortgages,
specific lawyers, etc. In order to know whether a name or
a names keywords pays well you can try out the tools listed in
the Resource Section
and read up on PPC Bids.
So you have researched how
much people are willing to pay for keywords for your domain it's
now time to look at the different types of domains you can park.
Remember Parking a domain requires traffic to that name
it shouldn't be a branded or made up word. Even though
hootieholiday.com might sound good no one will ever type it in.
There are different type's of "type in" domains:
"natural", Typo's, or Expired domains. Here's a summary of
each for further information I suggest going to sub pages of
each by clicking on the links.
Natural Type In (Direct
navigation) - these are generic names people type into the
address bar instead of searching for. For example
atlanticcity.com
instead of searching for Atlantic City.
Typo's - these are
typo's for example someone type' in
atlnaticcity.com (interest
of disclosure this is also my domain) instead of
atlanticcity.com.
Expired Domains - some
expired domains still have traffic to them from links, people
who are use to going to the site, etc. These sites have a
short shelf life if they are parked, but can sometimes be worth
it.
